Interview Skills for Neurodivergent Museum Pros

Webinar Replay + Key Takeaways

If you’ve ever felt like interviewing is its own special language, one that wasn’t designed with neurodivergent people in mind, you’re not alone. Museum professionals often operate in environments full of unwritten rules, ambiguous expectations, and high emotional labor. Combine that with a traditional interviewing process that rewards self-promotion, rapid processing, and socially “typical” cues, and it becomes a perfect storm for stress and second-guessing.

That’s why Alli and I hosted Interview Skills for Neurodivergent Museum Pros, a free webinar focused on helping museum workers navigate interviews with clarity, confidence, and self-advocacy. Whether you identify as neurodivergent or simply want more structure and support in your job search, this session was designed to give you practical, immediately usable tools.

If you couldn’t join us live, that’s ok. And you’re not missing out.

Why We Created This Webinar

The hiring process in the museum field can be especially challenging:

  • Interviewers rarely communicate expectations clearly

  • Tasks like take-home assignments can feel ambiguous or overwhelming

  • Masking can be exhausting and unsustainable

  • Neurotypical norms are often mistaken for “professionalism”

  • Museum job descriptions are notoriously vague

We wanted to demystify the process and help museum pros (especially those that identify as neurodivergent) prepare in a way that reduces anxiety, supports their natural strengths, and allows them to show up as themselves.

This session came out of patterns we see every week in our work with transitioning museum professionals: people with incredible skills who undersell themselves because interviews don’t align with how their brains work.
